Vermont’s major airport is Burlington International (BTV), about 55 minutes from Middlebury. Other airport options are Manchester, NH (MHT) 3 hours, and Albany, NY (ALB) 2 hours. In addition, smaller regional airports in Rutland, Vermont, and Plattsburgh, New York, provide additional options that might work for you.
Rail service is an option. If you will travel from New York or Albany, the Ethan Allen Express will bring you into Castleton or Rutland, both about 30 miles south of Middlebury. The journey takes about 5.5 hours from New York’s Penn Station. If you will travel from Boston, the Vermonter will bring you to Burlington/Essex Junction (about 40 miles north of us) via connection at Springfield, Massachusetts. In addition, the Adirondack (which travels from New York through Albany to Montreal) stops in Whitehall, Ticonderoga, Port Henry, Westport, and Port Kent, NY, all just across Lake Champlain. Transportation by local transportation companies from all of these train stations to Middlebury can be arranged.
