The Orwell room is located on the first floor of the Carriage House, which is a new structure built in 1995/7 on the footprint of the original historic building. The new Carriage House is decorated in the same manner as the historic main house, offering a homey mix of antiques and new furniture, but because the structure is modern, a stay here offers a some pleasant modern aspects, including somewhat larger bedrooms and significantly larger bathrooms. In addition, some guests prefer to stay in the Carriage House because it has no public spaces … and, hence, less “incidental” sounds from other guests.

The Orwell room is painted a beautiful, saturated teal. It offers a queen-size bed and its furnishings include a pretty antique dresser, a good-size table for enjoying breakfast or working, and two very comfortable arm chairs. The room features a very generous closet area and a large bathroom. You’ll also enjoy a very pretty view of the Memorial Baptist Church next door through the room’s windows!

The Orwell room is wheelchair-accessible and also is very well-suited to our bicycle touring guests, since there are no stairs to prevent wheeling a bicycle straight into the room (we ask that you arrange this prior to your stay, so that we can take a few simple precautions to protect the walls and floors).
